Marc Kielburger’s Lessons in Social Entrepreneurship

Avatar VeniVidiVideo | April 20, 2024

The co-founders of WE Charity and WE Day provide this practical guide on using business acumen for positive social change. With insights drawn from their own experiences as well as those of Oprah Winfrey, Earvin "Magic" Johnson and Sir Richard Branson as examples of success, Marc Kielburger and Craig Kielburger demonstrate how purposeful yet highly successful strategies were used to build a social movement impacting millions.

Craig Kielburger was 12 when he brought a newspaper clipping about the killing of a child labourer to school and was inspired to start Free the Children, later to become WE Charity and WE Day. Their holistic development model, WE Villages, is currently helping lift one million people out of poverty across Africa, Asia, and Latin America, while WE Schools/WE Day provides comprehensive service-learning programmes in 10,000 schools, engaging 2.4 million young change-makers worldwide.

Along the way, they've learned some invaluable lessons and discovered that true fulfilment lies in helping others. Through partnerships with major corporations and foundations, including Oprah Winfrey's Angel Network and the World Economic Forum's Young Global Leader programme, and spending time with iconic individuals like Nelson Mandela, Mother Teresa, and countless families in developing nations, they've come to understand one key truth: Reaching out can transform lives!

Marc Kielburger is an award-winning movement builder, social entrepreneur and legacy architect who has helped companies, foundations and individuals discover purpose. A New York Times best-selling author, columnist, and human rights activist, he co-founded WE Charity and WE Day (a global family of organisations that empower youth to make an impactful mark in the world) in 1998. Additionally, he holds membership in the Order of Canada as an Ashoka Fellow as well as 10 honorary doctorates/degrees; his accolades are Order of Canada membership as an Ashoka Fellow status as well as receiving 10 honorary doctorates or degrees!

He has been featured on Oprah Winfrey Show, 60 Minutes, and BBC broadcasts with his work. A graduate of Harvard University with a law degree from Oxford, where he received the Rhodes Scholarship award, he now resides with his brother Craig in Toronto, Canada.
